To avoid attacks by the Yemeni Houthis, MAERSK will direct all of its vessels transiting the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden around the Cape of Good Hope.
Changes to the route will lead to significant delays in transit time, as well as increased sea freight costs due to additional surcharges for Transit Disruption Surcharge (TDS), Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) and Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS).
